I give all my seniors Oh, the places you'll go for a graduation gift. they each get a copy with a personal note from me inside. I read it the last class day and they follow along, while eating cookies with milk. Words always to live by...
I learned yrs ago to know that I matter. When I started teaching, I was hired as a writing/computer specialist and was resented by older female English teachers. I ignored their rude comments until one day I looked at one of them and said, "You are not relevant to my existence." She never said a rude thing to me again. I would then call her out if someone said something she had said. I never looked back.
